Thoughts on goofball typefaces

Everyone has their own opinion on using goofball typefaces. Are they ever appropriate? Or should they stay un-downloaded from the Internet?

So… What do you think? Is there ever a right time to use things? I think so! I mean, not all the time however. They must be used sparingly and at the appropriate time. When they’re used more than once in a full moon it is definitely overkill. I mean, would you want all your text messages sent forever in any of the fonts shown in the image on the left? Didn’t think so. On the other hand, they’re sometimes fun to use. I recently made a book of Minnesota’s Lakes symbols, and it was fun to use an “outdoorsy” type here in and there for pull quotes throughout the piece.
